Creating this body of work, Riptide, has been a catharsis. This collection led me through both the lesson and the act of learning. Through my art, I was able to step outside the pain of my reality and explore a terrifying feeling that was like swimming while an overwhelmingly powerful current relentlessly pulled me away from the self I thought I knew. The resulting images juxtapose the feelings of joy and wonder that are most deeply felt after loss, growth, and letting go, against the shadow of darkness from which they - and I – evolved.
